    Information centres for youth – The National Youth Information Centre

    Description of practice:

    Their main activities of information youth centres are inform youngsters about job opportunities in Czech Republic and abroad as well. Youth centres also provide information about mobility programmes (such as the Erasmus +), supporting NGOs by promoting their projects on websites and social media.

    In this field great relevance has the Youth Information Centre, Department of the National Institute of Children and Youth which is a directly controlled organization of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. The National Youth Information Centre (NICM) aim is to gather information, consultancy and services for young people, sharing them within the Youth Information System.

    During its 20 years of existence (it was established in 1992) the NICM has achieved great results in the area of Youth Information Centres. It offers methodological activities to all government and non-government organizations concerning the issues of establishing and operating an ICM. It organizes seminars for the staff of ICMs from all over the Czech Republic, enables newly establishing ICMs to organize one-day training right in the NICM in Prague. It answers questions of the regional ICMs´ staff and helps them in the creation and implementation of their several projects.

    Need addressed:

    Its aims are:

    • To distribute information within the Youth Information System and to develop information and counselling activity trying to achieve the highest number of young people and youth workers and organizations.
    • Improve awareness of young people and to stimulate them as active citizens.
    • Support regional ICMs all over the Czech Republic and to help them improve their work

    Outcomes:

    Raised awareness about possibilities in youngsters’ communities, cities and abroad. Support their research process. Stimulate active citizenship and participation.
